Biography
My name is Jennifer Jose. I am a 16 yr. old junior at Clark High School in San Antonio, Tx. I have lived in San Antonio all of my life and I live with my younger brother and my parents. I drive a '93 green Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have a fasination with all animals (except snakes). I have 2 Dalmatians, 1 cat, 4 brangus show heifers, 1 horse, and 2 gerbils. I love being outdoors and working on my families' ranch. My nickname at school is "Heifer", (it is not as bad as it sounds!) I am a member of the award winning Clark Quintessence (Flags). I am a member of University United Methodist Church. I hope to attend Texas A&M in College Station in the fall of '98.

Mentor
I am involved in a class that allows me the opportunity to work with a mentor in the area that I am interseted in. Dr. David Harrison is a small animal veterinarian in San Antonio and has been practicing for two years. He graduated from Texas A&M in '91 with a major in Veterinary Science and he got his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in '95. He has helped me greatly and has let me seen what Veterinary Medicine involves.

Project
In ISM (Independent Study Mentorship) you must complete a project. I choose to put a scientific paper together. I worked with Dr. Harrison and collect blood from cats and tested each sample for heartworms. There were 70 samples collect with 0 positives and 70 negatives. With research I discovered that heartworms are becoming more of a problem in cats. I concluced that more samples must be drawn in order to discover a positive or the test method that was used was not sensitive enough to detect the heartworm.
